May 27- Today we couldn’t do anything because we didn’t have any materials because we weren’t very sure what to bring. We have decided what to bring and we will start our car tomorrow. We will buy bigger wheels because the wheels that Ms. Lemley gave us are too small. May 29- Today we started to cut the wood with the exacto knife. The wood was really hard to cut so Mr. Hoiseth helped us and instead of cutting the wood, he cut the ruler. The wood was too thick so I will take it home and my driver will cut it. Tomorrow we will have the wood cut and ready. I will bring sandpaper and we will sand it so the edges aren’t rough. May 30- Today we had the wood ready and next class we will paint it. I will get wheels and tools so that we have everything ready for the next class. After finishing the wood we were all relieved because it was really hard to complete it. Andrea couldn’t come to this class because her brother presented Cofo and she had to go. June 2- Today I brought the sandpaper to sand the paper and make them round so when it hits the wind it will break it instead of making it slower. We needed to cut one more part to complete the car, but the exacto knife wasn’t there so the class was a waste of time. June 3- Today I brought the wood and it was ready. We sanded it and glued all the woods together. We decided that to put the wheels we needed a piece of wood to hold the wheels. I agreed to bring it. Tomorrow we will put on the wheels and see if it works like that or if we need any modifications. June 5- Today we painted the car, it took longer to dry than I expected. Ì couldn't bring the wood today because I didn't have the wood. It took the whole class for our car to dry so while we waited we started cutting the wood. It was really hard because our exacto knife wasn't very sharp, we got one piece of wood cut and the rest I will cut in my house. June 6- Today we pasted the wheels. It was very hard because the instructions on the glue said to wait 15 minutes before actually pasting it and we didn't. Today, after school Andrea and Cristina will come to my house, we will work on the car and the wheels and try to fix it as much as possible and put the wheels so it doesn't wobble when it goes. June 9- Today we repasted the wheels because our wheels were uneven. Ms. Lemley took our back wheels so that she can put the gear correctly without breaking it. Our new way to put the car is by using a piece of wood on the bottom and styrofoam where the wheel goes through. June 10- Today Ms. Gaby put the gear on the wheel and when we put the car together it worked. The problem was that we didn't have electric tape to paste the motor properly. We will do that on Thursday. Ms. Gaby put on the gear by pushing it through styrofoam so it won't break the wheels or the table. June 11- Today we tested the car twice, the first time the wheels was still unsteady and it wobbled so during the class we worked with the tape and how top make it steady. By the end of the class we tested it and it worked. June 12- At the beginning of today’s class we tested our car and it didn't work. The problem was that the styrofoam was too soft and the whole we made would get bigger and bigger. We decided to use another material, a stronger material that won't break when the car goes. We fixed it by using bottle caps; we made holes in the middle of it with the screwdriver. By the time we were done, the class was over. June 16- Today we tested the car to see if the bottle caps would work. It worked really well, but the wires of the motor would interfere and stop the car every meter or so. We fixed it with electric tape. |

Reflection Our car worked but never finished the race. We tried it like three times. The first time it worked but stopped when it hit a leaf. The leaf moved the gear so we had to fix it. We had the time of the next two races to fix it. To fix it we got electric tape and tried to put the gear as together as possible. When we tried it again it advanced like 2 meters, then it stopped, we had one more chance, the problem was that when it started the force of the gear pushed away the other gear and that is when it stopped. The second time we tried the same thing happened. Our car never reached the goal because the two gears didn’t work well together. I think that it was because the way we designed the bottom, we put too much electric tape and the bottle caps were too big, they were the same size that the wheels so when the bottle caps hit the floor when the car advanced. By the end of the day, our car never reached the finish line. Our prediction is not as I expected, when we tested the car it went fast, with nothing wrong and when we got to Chosica, it didn’t work the same. |
