Weather:
- The month of July is the coldest
- The warmest month is in January
- Seasons opposite from those on the northern hemisphere

Language:
- Main language spoken is currently English
- Before it was Maori
- Maori language has consists of five vowel sounds: a e i o u ('a' as in 'car', 'e' as in 'egg', 'i' like the 'ee' in 'tee', 'u' like an 'o' in 'to').
- It has 8 consonants in Maori similar to those in English - 'h', 'k', 'm', 'n', 'p', 'r', 't', and 'w'.
- Also two different consonants - 'wh' and 'ng'.
Culture:
- Have different gods for everything belief they have
- The god of the water Taniwha is believed that lives in the swamp and lakes at different points of each season
- The Maori people arrived to New Zealand in canoes
- New Zealand culture include traditional arts such as carving, weaving, kapa haka (group performance), whaikorero (oratory) and moko (tattoo)
- This traditional arts are practiced throuoght the country
- Maori people practice still the techniques used 100 years ago
- Maori culture also includes art, film, television, poetry, theatre, and hip-hop.
- There is also oral culture based in legends and stories
- Stories and legends are based on the gods that existed long ago and about the world being formed
Currency:
- Maori people didn’t use money in the Western sense before the first Europeans arrived
- Instead of using money they traded things
- Coins began to circulate among the growing community settler
- Most of the coins were British
- Colony grew after 1840
- The new currency was introduced in 1967 to replace the New Zealand pound when the country decimalized its
currency.
- Now currency is often called Kiwi
