| In the R.U.R. project, I had to research on how robots were invented and how they were being used today. I researched topics such as the process of the creation of robots and I also researched where the word robot came from. It turned out that it came from a play which was called "R.U.R., Rossum's Universal Robots." In this play, robots were not necessarily what we think they were. They were not made of metal or anything, but they did have artificial organs. There were these people who were making robots as part of their job and were completely focused on creating robots and business and nothing more. A woman named Helena was trying to convince them to stop making robots or to at least give them a soul, so they would be more like people, but they would not listen. In the end, too many robots were produced and they started revolting and slayed all the humans except one. Then, the one surviving human found out that two robots were actually in love, and that it was impossible for robots to have any feelings, so he told them to remake the human race. At the end of the play, he declared that the human race would live on forever, and soon the world will slowly be ruled by humans again. |
Helena is protesting about robot treatment and she is very agitated. She says "Using robots like servants isn't right, its sick! We should give them a soul, because they are equal like us, they are equal like people and they should deserve the right to feel love and happiness!!" |
