Thomas Edison invented the light bulb in 1879. Before the light bulb was invented people used fire, but it was very dangerous. Later people realized that with oil there could be light so they invented the lamp.  People also used candles or light made of gas to see in the dark.  Important buildings had arch lamps that worked for a few hours and the light was too bright.

This invention has changed life because people turn a switch on and a bulb goes on.  When a bulb goes on you can have light in your car, the roads, houses, buildings, and airplanes.  The benefits are that you can see in the dark and do many things that you couldnÕt do before there was no light.  The down falls are that a bulb can burn, start a fire, or you can get an electric shock.  Also, people need to pay to have electricity.  If you donÕt have money to pay then you wonÕt have electricity so you wonÕt have light.

In the future probably the light bulb might move with a control and each person has his own light bulb you can put stronger the light and lower it. This invention is important because if not we could not see in the dark and could not have light.
