Volleyball Resume

THE GAME: Volleyball is the 2nd most widely played game after soccer, and there are 6 players per team, played on a court divided by a net (2.43 mts. for men and 2.24 mts. for women).  Each team tries to cause the opposite team to be unable to return the ball over the net .

SCORING:  A team must have 25 points and be 2 points ahead to win the game. A match is either 2 out of 3 games (schools), or 3 out of 5 games (international rules).

SERVICE:  The game begins by a serve (service) taken behind any part of the baseline. The server may not step on or over the baseline until the ball is hit.  The serve may either be underhand, side arm, over head, or power service (jumping).  The ball must pass over the net and land between the court boundaries (lines are in).

PLAYING THE BALL: A team has up to 3 hits to return the ball over the net.  The same person cannot hit the ball twice in succession.  The ball must be given immediate impetus with any part of the body.  The ball must be hit clearly, not held. If the team fails to return the ball over the net legally, the other team wins the point.
- There are 6 positions on the court
- The rotation:  Is the act of shifting positions in a clockwise    direction when the team is awarded the serve.
- Bump: Hitting the ball below the waist with the hands clasped together and forearms side by side forming a “V”.
- A back: Row player can not block or spike in the front row close to the net.  They must spike and jump behind the attack line, but may land in front of it.
- Center line foot or hand faults: entire foot or hand crosses center line.
- Double: Touching twice consecutively (with or without intention) by   a player.
- Block: A defensive play to block or interfere with the flight of the ball being returned over the net by opponents.Blocks do not count as a contact.
- Spike/smash: Open hand powerfully hit shot downward.
